More than 150 shows from Thursday 5th t/m Sunday 8th of July 2012
The international festival ‘Deventer Op Stelten’ (Deventer On Stilts) takes place from Thursday 5th t/m Sunday 8th of July 2012. During four days the historical city centre of Deventer and the park across the river will be the background of street theatre, theatre on stilts and large scale shows high in the air.
The program includes more than 150 free performances by theatre groups from France, Spain, Italy, England, Belgium and the Netherlands. The festival provides platform for national and international top acts. The festival takes place on Thursday (opening program), Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening. ‘Deventer On Stilts’ became in 15 years time one of the most prestigious festivals in the Netherlands with outdoor theatre. More than 130.000 visitors visit the festival every year in July.
Highlights of the program:
- Compagnie Off (France) will make (with the help of 60 young people from the east of the Netherlands) 27 (!) red giraffes alive: a herd of 54 stilt walkers (2 per giraffe), special effects, smoke, fireworks and confetti.
The show is part of the Project ‘<30’, a young talent development program of the festival.
- ‘Une Cerise Noire’ (France) is a unique performance where 26 actors and technician in a complete film set with 14 different decors play the making-off of a film noir. At the same time the recordings of the movie will be shown on a big screen.
- Theater Tol (Belgium) plays ‘Fietsen in de Hemel’: an air performance at a big crane with dancing angels, musicians and cinematic images.
- Theater Gajes (Deventer) plays the Dutch premier of their high scale show ‘Agora Phobia’: a dynamic and humorous adventure with driving objects, strange machines and 15 actors on stilts.
Other highlights of this year’s program: Stalker Theatre (Australia) sponsored by Smurfit Kappa Zedek, Ockham’s Razor (England), Triade Nomade (France), Leandre (Spain), Karl Stets (Denmark), TAMTAM objektentheater, special festival productions, an visual art project and many other compagnies.
